March 22, 2021 is the 29th World Water Day, and March 22-28 is set as the 34th China Water Week. The theme of World Water Day this year is “Valuing Water”.

Sanyang Wetland is the only large-scale wetland in Wenzhou, which has the functions of conserving water sources, purifying water quality, and maintaining biodiversity. The protection of wetlands is important in the overall strategic deployment of China. At the two sessions of Wenzhou City this year, building Wenzhou into a city of wetland was included in the municipal "14th Five-Year Plan". The protection of Sanyang wetland has become the priority in the work agenda.

At the site, the staff and students from the College of Life and Environment carried out publicity initiatives including knowledge quizzes, 100-meter gallery, and water purification experiments. This event, aiming to arouse the awareness of water conservation among the general public, was strongly supported by Wenzhou Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau and the Ecological Park Management Committee.

"We are very fortunate to be able to participate in this experiment. The children witnessed how dirty water became clean through a small water purification experiment, and learned a lot of knowledge about water conservation." Ms. Liu said. "I have learned through the news media that Wenzhou is striving to become an international wetland city. The events today are really meaningful!"

Supported by the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Urban Water Pollution Ecological Treatment Technology, the College of Life and Environmental Sciences of Wenzhou University aims to contribute more to the water safety and conservation efforts.
